What is Reporter Magazine?

Reporter Magazine

Student-Run Publication at RIT

Reporter Magazine is RIT’s official student-run publication, known for covering campus culture, current events, and creative storytelling through both print and digital media. As a designer working on Reporter projects, I’ve contributed to promotional campaigns that blend strong visuals with strategic messaging to boost engagement and readership across campus.

Through this experience, I’ve worked on:

  • Print materials like posters and flyers placed around campus

  • Short-form video content for SHED digital screens

  • Collaborative campaigns that combined digital, print and in-person engagement strategies

Working with Reporter gave me hands-on experience designing for real audiences while strengthening my skills in branding, layout design, and content promotion. It also challenged me to think creatively about how to connect with students in a fast-paced campus environment.

REP-001 | Reporter November Issue Promotion

Project Overview

To support the release of Reporter Magazine’s November issue, which centered on the upcoming presidential election, our team developed a multi-channel promotional campaign to increase student engagement and readership. The goal was to create excitement around the magazine’s content and reinforce Reporter as a relevant and trusted source for student-focused news. The campaign included printed materials, social media content, email outreach and an interactive tabling event designed to spark campus-wide conversation.

My Role

As the lead designer, I created promotional posters, flyers and social media graphics that reflected the theme of the issue and visually captured the urgency and relevance of the election topic. I designed print materials for campus distribution and digital assets for Instagram, aligning all visuals with Reporter’s existing brand style. My work helped create a cohesive look across platforms and drew students into the campaign both online and in person.

REP-0006 | Technically Speaking Banner Ad for Reporter

Project Overview

To boost awareness of Technically Speaking beyond its digital presence, I led the design of a full-width banner ad for Reporter magazine’s upcoming issue. This was Technically Speaking’s first-ever print ad and served as a visual anchor in the publication, aimed at grabbing attention and encouraging RIT students and faculty to learn more about the agency’s services. The ad aligned with the brand’s existing identity while expanding its reach through physical media distribution across campus.

My Role

As both the project manager and designer, I oversaw the timeline, creative direction and execution of the final banner. I designed the ad using Technically Speaking’s brand colors, typography and logo, integrating bold type, clean layout and minimalistic icons related to advertising and media. I also supported the copywriting process to ensure messaging was concise, informative and engaging. The final product offered a fresh, physical representation of the TS brand and helped elevate visibility within the RIT community.

REP-0007 | Reporter April & Distorter Edition Promotion

Project Overview

To support the return of Reporter Magazine’s satirical “Distorter” edition, our team launched a dual-promotion campaign to boost awareness and readership of both the “Distorter” and the standard April issue. The goal was to engage a wider student audience—especially in under-reached colleges—and reintroduce the “Distorter” in a bold, memorable way. The campaign included printed materials, digital promotion and a tabling event to increase campus visibility and student interaction.

My Role

As the designer, I created an 8.5x11 poster promoting the magazine's release, designed for print and distributed across campus. The poster used high-contrast colors and bold typography to reflect the playful, satirical tone of the “Distorter” while clearly noting the distinction between the two issues. I also produced a short video for the SHED digital display that ran throughout release week, using animated visuals and key messaging to grab attention in high-traffic areas. These assets helped increase visibility and excitement around both issues of Reporter.
